The Writing Process

Students at SDHS use the Writing Proces

Prewriting—using techniques such as brainstorming to gather ideas
Drafting—placing those ideas into a working form
Sharing—exchanging ideas
Revising—reworking ideas
Redrafting—rewriting ideas into a different/improved working form
Editing—checking the conventions of language
Redrafting—putting ideas into the final form
Postwriting—showcasing the student

Writing is key not only because of the need to be able to express oneself on paper, but because the writing process mirrors the thinking process—both require gathering and sorting information (prewriting), describing and comparing information (drafting), evaluating and analyzing perceptions (revising), application of information (redrafting), and presentation of ideas (redrafting/postwriting).
