The
History of the Writing Academy at San Diego High
After a three year study, in 1983, the Carnegie Foundation for
the Advancement of Teaching released a report that concluded
that "writing is the most important and most neglected
skill in school." In 1985, San Diego High was given the
opportunity to reinvent itself through the addition of magnet
programs. When we opened the total-school magnet, the Writing
Academy, we became the first public high school in the nation
to use writing as a means for learning in all subject areas.
Partnered with the International Baccalaureate program, it provides
an exceptional educational experience for all students. |
